The west of Ireland is the Great Britain, on the north is Northern
Ireland, which is a separate country, the west and south is the Atlantic
Ocean, on the east is the Irish Sea that lies between Great Britain and
Ireland.
Roughly only as big as New Brunswick, the distance of the island from
north to south is 486 kilometres, 275 kilometres from east to west. With
800 rivers and lakes, Shannon is the longest river with 386 kilometres
long. As it empties to the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest, the river rises
from the north. Lakes are called loughs that include Lough Corrib in
Galway, Lough Derg which is part of Shannon River, and Killarney lakes.
Some Ancient LandscapesThe Holy Well in Cuilleann in County of Tipperary was attributed to Our Lady and in ancient time, to the Goddess Brid. In the 20th century, it has been renamed as St Patrick's Well, as well as majority of the Irish Holy Wells. There is a theory that sun worship were in connection with the sun worship, and it was as large as the Stonehenge in England.Carved Stone that can be found in a churchyard at Kells, Co Meath leans against a church wall. The centre of the circle has a hole, which could be at the past contained a gnomon rod of metal that cast shadow to indicate date. This is called a Calendar Stone. The stone has a double circle, divided into four, and subdivided into eight, which was divided into three. The age of the stone is unknown. Comments (1)
