| The Early History of Ireland |
Up to this day, Ireland has a history that can never be classified as
quiet. The first settlers in the island dated back 8000BC. The Neolithic
people build massive stones starting 2000BC. Around 1st century BC, Ireland
was conquered by a race called Picts - Irish folklore described them as
"Fir Bolg". The Celts came and created a great impact in Ireland. They
migrated in Ireland around 350 BC. But they have been established around
150 BC with their Iron Age know-how. They dominated the entire Ireland
until 1170 AD to 1600AD.
Pre-historicThere were also new migrations in Ireland, and they call themselves "Gael." The only inhabitants who can use this word were those people who share the same ethnicity. Although some historians call them Celts as they share same language and culture.Golden Irish CultureA missionary and a bishop, St Patrick came to Ireland to convert pagans to Christians and to educate them. Ireland became fully Christianized as they flourished their own culture. Ireland remained Catholic even when the Protestant Reformation swept across England and Europe; thus, the Catholic and the Protestant differences in Northern Ireland. Patrick's had great contributions on Irish education. Before Patrick, elite Irish were well educated - only in oral concentration. They believed that written education would damage their concentration and memory. Through monastery schools, Patrick introduced writing to a country where there was no written literature. However, the written articles by the Irish elites who recorded their history were destroyed by the Vikings when they raid Ireland. The Viking TyrannyThe barbarian sailors from Norway and Denmark invaded nearly all of the Western World. They raided and burned monasteries; killing unarmed monks. At first, their only interest was to rape, plunder, and rob. But in 837, they seized lands for settlement. After establishing their own expansion and fortifying their settlements, they marry Gaelic families. In those dark days under the Vikings tyranny, the liberation against them was started by Mahon and Brian Boru of Munster. Few signs remained after their 150 year invasion. No artwork, no architecture, nor holidays, pagan gods, language, nor culture. At the most, they said that Vikings founded Dublin and some coastal cities. Few Viking words remained and some of the Viking blood that is running through the veins of the inhabitants of Ireland.
