Up to this day, Ireland has a history that can never be classified as
quiet. The first settlers in the island dated back 8000BC. The Neolithic
people build massive stones starting 2000BC. Around 1st century BC, Ireland
was conquered by a race called Picts - Irish folklore described them as
"Fir Bolg". The Celts came and created a great impact in Ireland. They
migrated in Ireland around 350 BC. But they have been established around
150 BC with their Iron Age know-how. They dominated the entire Ireland
until 1170 AD to 1600AD.
Civilization in this area dated back as early as the Bronze and Iron age,
when Ireland was run by the Erainn and the Picts, until the Celts came and
drove them away. It was in this time that Ireland was divided into four
kingdoms and Christianity was introduced to them because of Saint Patrick.
Norse civilization ruled over Ireland for over two hundred years until they
were defeated by Boru. In the 12th century, the power to rule over Ireland
was handed over to the British by consequence of a papal fief. And in the
17th century, the Protestants overthrew Christianity and gained power over
the politics and economic of Ireland.
Irish history is basically like the history of any other nation, that is,
all full of wars, power tripping and power grabbing. They were severely
opposed to being only a part of Great Britain since it was during their
reign that the Irish suffered so much, even to the point of migrating to be
able to find better opportunities for their future. They also valued their
independence so much that were also opposed to Northern Ireland being a
part of them.
